Whenever I clink an email on a website the default Apple mail app opens. How can I change this so that the primary mail app I use, Spark, opens instead? I called Apple support but they told me I had to delete Apple Mail and that I would have to contact Spark after that. They didn’t really seem to know.

Settings > Mail > Default Account > Choose Spark

Typically your 3rd-party Mail Client should offer to associate itself as the default Mail app on your system.

Fred II, yes. They have what’s listed on the screenshot below but it doesn’t address the issue. I’m trying to make Spark my default mail app so that when I click on an email address the Spark app opens rather than the standard Apple Mail. With their instructions I have to click the share icon > Spark > compose my email by manually putting in the email address.
Ideas?
Thanks rbrlawski. Unfortunately, I don’t have the options listed in your suggestion. I’m running on an iPad software version 12.2. When I click on Settings > Mail > there’s no “Default Account” option here. See screenshot.
There’s also no option if I click on the Spark app settings. Also see screenshot.

rbrylawski, thanks for following up. Attached is a screenshot when I scroll all the way down. I don’t have the option you describe. I can’t find it anywhere and the apple support I talked to last night didn’t seem to be aware of it either.

Do you by any chance have a company controlled asset, where the company has installed Mobile Device Management software on your iPad? Also, when you tap the Apple native Mail App, is your Spark email account there?
What you just posted might be a good suggestion if the OP was asking about Mac, but this is the iPad forum and that's what they were asking about.

It likely does. You need to speak with company IT people who are managing the software on your iPad.
You didn't go down far enough on the mail app page. Go to the bottom of the page and the last option in Composing is Default account. Swipe the page upwards to go further down.
