Using Itunes to connect to Home sharing

How do i connect my hp laptop to apple tv? I opened itunes, and turned on home sharing, then went on apple tv> computers> home sharing......but my device isnt coming up. Is there a way i can screen mirror my laptop on apple tv without a HDMI cord?
