I know it's important to be able to add calendars; I'd like to help. I'd recommend using the steps below to remove the Facebook calendar, then add it back:
"Delete a calendar
on your Mac, click the calendar’s name in the calendar list.Add a calendar
on your Mac, choose File > New Calendar, then choose an account for the calendar.If you can’t add a calendar for a particular calendar account, try adding a calendar on the account provider’s website. For example, to create a Google calendar, go to google.com."

thanks for your answer.
Now I deleted the Facebook calendar the only way it was possible via the System settings entirely and then added it back also there.
Finally iCal does not show the Facebook calendar anymore. When taking a look at iCal accounts the Facebook account is there, but neither does it show in the calendar itself nor there is a dedicated 'Facebook calendar' in the calendar list.
How can I get it back working now?

thanks but I tried that already and it will add only the items that already are in the calendar but it won't update like e.g. a CalDAV calendar.
Before I was able to always have all of my Facebook events in iCal. How can I get that back?

Yes I can import the calendar file generated from Facebook. But it will neither refresh nor sync somehow when adding new events on Facebook. I can understand this so far, as it contains only the events at the time the file was saved.
Sorry but that is NOT a solution to get Facebook calendar synced with iCal again.
Already contacted Apple last year on this issue and also Facebook as suggested by Apple. And both referred me to each other – so in the end there was no solution. As you can see its still not working. :-(
Also I do not understand why there are not more users having this issue. Can imagine that many users have their Facebook events integrated in iCal. As far as I remember there were no issues while Apple had this direct integration of Facebook in macOS that a while ago stopped.
I am getting the same error
However I never had a "Facebook Calendar" on my iCal. What's strange is that despite getting this error, my friends birthdays still show up. Is it also supposed to show Facebook events? If so, that is not working.

Were you able to import the existing events as shown in the help page? If so, Open Calendar on your Mac. Right click on the Calendar you imported and click Get Info. From this box you can rename this calendar if you choose.
Once you've named the calendar, click Calendar Info > Refresh Calendars. There you can select how often you want the calendar to refresh so you can stay up-to-date.
