If you leave your apple pencil unused for a week - it will die - and never come back to life.

A few years ago, I bought my mom an iPad Pro. I got her the works. The keyboard, a mouse, and pencil. She didn't use the pencil at first / and so, a few months later - I just took it to use it for a while. It was no longer holding any charge - and wont move up past 3% or pair.

I took it to the apple store - and they said there was nothing to be done because the purchase was too long ago.

I was bummed out... but I figured it was a fluke / and so I bought another one.

I just got a new job - and was super busy - and didn't use the pencil for while. Now it's the SAME THING. Pencil doesn't work.

The part that is the biggest problem - is that NO ONE TOLD ME that I would have to basically use it everyday - or keep it plugged in permanently - so it wouldn't die. If this is fact / then we should be told about it. It's ridiculous that the battery can't be easily replaced if it goes bad this easily... but we should be told about how to keep it healthy.

The main reason I bought a (many) iPad pros for my business - was because of the pencil...

Not cool.

I'm going to go into the store and ask for another - but if they don't give me one, I'll definitely be writing about this more publicly. This is very sketchy and rude of apple.

This has been a big issue and flaw with the Apple Pencil since its introduction 3 years, ago.

This is old news.

We see one of these Apple Pencil dead or no longer working fairly regularly in these iPad communities.

If an Apple Pencil sits around unused and not kept charged up for more than a few weeks, or so, OR LONGER, then the battery in your Apple Pencil may have failed and is dead and you will have to purchase another brand new Apple Pencil.

That is the reality.

Sorry.

FYI and something Apple never divulges to it potential iPad Pro/Apple Pencil customers/users unless the potential customer/user is smart enough to ask about AND, apparently, this is still an issue with the newest second generation Apple Pencil,

Due to the “always on and active/standby” nature of the Apple Pencil and, also, due to its very tiny rechargeable Li-ion battery (smaller than the eraser head on a REAL wooden pencil), the Apple Pencil needs to be constantly charged up to some significant charge level ALL THE TIME, even when not using the Pencil for prolonged periods of time.

The Apple Pencil needs to be kept charged to a minimum of 5-10% all the time.

If the Apple Pencil battery is allowed to drain down to 0% and allowed to stay in that flat, zero charge condition for more than a few weeks, or so, OR EVEN LONGER, that very tiny little Li-ion battery is too small to keep at a 0% state for a long period of time and it will fail and the Apple Pencil will be dead and you may have to “pop” for another $99 or $129 U.S.D. Apple Pencil, once again!

A new Apple Pencil purchase will always have a free, one year AppleCare protection.

So, within that year, if your Apple Pencil dies, again, you should be able to obtain a free replacement.

Best of Luck to You!
