Help. ATV stuck on “Data & Privacy” screen

I was able to solve this issue by downloading the Remote app from the App Store. The app successfully connected to my ATV and allowed me to bypass the screen — even though the remote control built into iOS could not.

The Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) needs the Apple Remote (aluminum) to navigate with. The Siri Remote won’t work.

The page If your Apple TV remote isn’t working - Apple Support describes how to unlink any previous Apple Remote (aluminum), and link the new Apple Remote (aluminum). Both actions can be down with the new remote.

I have this same problem. It appears the engineers didn't consider what would happen when folks lost their paired remote. Users cannot get past this screen to pair a new remote, and therefore AppleTV is bricked. Using an iPhone as a remote does not work, as the Data & Privacy screen appears to interfere with that pairing as well.

Please fix this issue as it makes the AppleTV completely unusable for people who. have misplaced (the very small and easily lost) AppleTV remote.

I have the same problem and it is frustration. Apple TV 2nd or 3rd generation. Cannot select CONTINUE to advance past the Data and Privacy Screen. What is the solution?

And I assume the Apple TV in question is also a Apple TV 4. In that case please reference Apple TV remote isn’t working.
