Help with Ipod Classic

I'm having some trouble with an old iPod Classic. It plays normally but when I connect it to my laptop, it won't recognise it. Although, the "connected" screen comes up on the iPod itself. If I go to device manager and update the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, it will appear as a USB drive in my computer. However, it still won't come up in iTunes.

I've reinstalled iTunes, rebooted the iPod and I've also tried another iPod with the laptop too. I also put the iPod in Diagnostic Boot mode. The results I got were:

Retracts: 3449, Reallocs: 14, Pending Sectors: 4, PowerOn Hours: 6955, Start/Stops: 2925, Temp: Current 26c, Temp: Min 10c, Temp: Max 47c

Does anyone know if there's any way to fix this problem? Thanks.

Try iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows - Apple Community. Despite the title it should help with iPod classic too.

See also Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. Ideally you want to reformat the device to clear off the 4 pendings.

I tried the first link and when I got to step 9, I clicked on Apple and the only folder in there was Apple Application Support.

I've tried to format the iPod but a pop-up appears saying "There is no disk in drive E. Insert a disk, and then try again".

When I connect the iPod to the laptop, it doesn't appear in my computer. I have to go to device manager and update the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. After I do that, it just comes up as USB Drive (E:) and not as an iPod.
