I've set Mailbox Behaviors to erase deleted messages when quitting Email - that doesn't work - if I quit email, then open it again, they're still there. I even restarted my Mac but the emails still weren't deleted. Previouosly I had the setting as delete messages after one month and that seems to work, but now I want them deleted when I close Mac Mail I'm on High Sierrra 10.13.6??
Thanks everyone - I see now that these settings have to be applied to each email account - I was considering it a general setting but it was only applying to iCloud.

FWIW, you may be doing this already but you have to set the preference for each email account.
If it's an iCloud account, yes, but I don't think the Provider was mentioned.
