I'm using iPhone 7 and after updating to IOS 12.3.1 I cannot hear anyone on a call, I have to be in a very quiet place in order to hear the other person.
I don't like to use speakers when I'm doing my calls in the office and I don't always carry my EarPods.
is there any solution, update, downgrade method to fix the issue?

Try restarting the phone - I've had issues for days not being able to hear any audio on calls or facetime.
OK for now following restart of iPhone X, though will have to see if it stays fixed.
actually it's set to the max and I tried to turn down the volume and then turning it up to the max and it did not help.
I tried restarting, resetting setting and resetting network setting and the same problem.
I'm having the same issue, tried everything and nothing seems to work. Only way that I can have a conversation is to be on speakerphone.
I’m having same problem. Audio during call too low to hear (and yes have it turned up full during call). This started with 12.3.1. Is there a way to downgrade to 12.3?
O have the exactly same problem with an iPhone 8. I have to use the EarPods or AirPods or put it in speaker. It’s really annoying
