MacOS Frequently Hangs

I am trying to troubleshoot frequent hangs of MacOS. During this time the mouse is movable but the OS doesnt respond for 1-2 minutes. After which, everything I've tried to do "catches up"

Sometimes this is signified by a pinwheel, other times it is not.

I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting. I've opened "Console" and when it froze, I looked to see the timestamp of the last message. When it started responding again, I copied all the messages between the time of the freeze and when it started responding.

I can't seem to post the Console Log as it's too many characteres, but I'm not sure which of the errors are normal and/or which are related to the hangs.

Please advise to troubleshooting steps. The first group of errors is below.

Verify your software is up to date—

If you are currently running the macOS 10.14.5, try reinstalling the combo update on top of your existing macOS

Download macOS Mojave 10.14.5 Combo Update - Apple Support https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2001

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD. If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Recovery: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

If the problem continues re-install the latest macOS from recovery.
