Documents stored on icloud using Mac does not show up on icloud on iphone an ipad

When i store documents on icloud using my mac I am not able to find them again on ipad or iphone.

This goes for all file types it seems. What I have been storing is office documents and picture files.

Folders I create from Mac will show up in icloud for ipad and iphone but they only look like empty folders. The other way around it works fine: What i store from iphone and ipad shows up and are accessible from icloud on my mac.
