When I connect my lightning sd card reader, it doesn't pull up any photos

I've tried everything to get my lightning sd card reader to access my photos for import but I keep getting the message that there are no photos to import.

iPad won’t transfer photos from lightening to SD Card Reader After the latest software update I’m unable to transfer photos from my SD Card Reader. I purchased another Lightening Sd Card Reader and the iPad won’t prompt to import photos. I tried the same reader and sd card in my husband’s iPad and it worked. I have restarted the iPad, all with no success. Thank you.

Photos: importing from SD card G-D'it... Photos sees the SD card ...and the photos stream out for import. Other, random times, Photo sees the SD card, but will not display the photos for import. One camera will work and another day, not. I have switched SD readers to no avail. Perhaps there is another import program you can recommend? I find Photos quick and easy - 'till it is not! ('latest software upgrades on all my devices) Thanks. Jim.
