How to restore from Backup 3.2 backups in 2019

I have a lot of backups that I created using the old Apple Backup application provided by the old MobileMe service. I want to restore them but apparently the Apple Backup app is no longer compatible with Mac OS X (I am currently running OS 10.12). In addition to fully-functional files the discs have some .bck files that appear to be partial backups of individual files that are re-assembled by the Backup app, but I can no longer run it.

Does anyone know of a way to recover these backups using current compatible apps?

I suspect you're going to have to find a Mac that'll support the necessary software—a Mac system that'll run 10.4.11, 10.5.8, or a version between 10.6 and earlier than Sierra—install that version of OS X onto that Mac, and experiment. Or install an old version as a guest in a virtual machine, and try that.

That last DL article has a download link which—after a couple of redirects—does download what appears to be a copy of the Backup utility DMG, if you need that.
