iphone sent sms on its own

Today my mother called me asking about the meaning of an sms that I just sent her. I replied her that I didn’t send any sms. Right after I went to check my sms app list.

At the first screen where all the conversations (with any contact that I sent an sms before ) are displayed, there is a brief preview of the last sms content.

The communication with my mother was on second line and the sms preview was writing things that I never typed.

When I selected this line in order to access the entire dialogue there wasn’t any message stored (like the previewed one).

Also this preview of the “ghost” sms was containing another sms that I had send a month ago in quotes. Outside of those quotes there was a description of an action: you removed a smile.

anyone else having this issue. I updated to last version (12.3.1) yesterday afternoon.

Hi Dionisis_Kord,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today. It sounds like your iPhone may have sent an SMS message by itself a couple of times.

Have you restarted your iPhone since this happened? Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

I'd also try force cloing the messages app: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If you have done all of this and it occurs again, please contact Apple Support.

Thank you for the information, I did all those. My phone is functional 100% and never happened in the past. The oddest is that the sms that my phone sent was slightly different than the one my mother received. Mine was “you removed a smile” while the other one was “a smile removed”. I have some screenshots/pics from those messages but they are not in English.
