Downloading apps

When I try download an app, I am asked to log in with the password instead of the face ID to approve the payment method. When I log in I am only told that my card is being rejected, even though it is the right card information, and this happens when I download free apps. what should I do?

Try a different card or see if you can remove it (when you have a card on an account it has to be a valid card and pass the iTunes validation, that applies to all downloads) : Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods - Apple Support
