Photos disappeared after airdrop failed from iPhone to iMac - HELP!!

I chose all my photos and videos on my iPhone 7 and tried airdropping them to my iMac (running High Sierra v.10.13.16) and part way through the transfer hundreds of my photos disappeared from my phone and it gave me "airdrop failure" message on my iphone. A ton of my photos are gone!! I'm losing it!! I am not on the cloud so that's not an option for backup. Any other way to find photos that are missing?????

If you are not managing photos in iCloud, did you have a backup of the phone while the photos were all on it? If yes, then restore the phone to the backup, and the photos should return.

I've not tried AirDropping photos as a method to back them up. Have you checked to see if they are in the Recently Deleted album? I cannot really speak on troubleshooting AirDrop, as I don't normally use a Mac computer. You may need to wait to see if anyone else could troubleshoot the photos disappearing from an AirDrop error. Well, I was actually in the process of backing up my photos manually to my computer before I backed up & updated my phone. I don't use the cloud. So, the photos are gone I'm assuming if I didn't have them backed up any other way? That's awful that they can disappear just from trying to airdrop to my computer.
