Back up is taking longer than a day

I'm using Time Machine to backup on a Porsche LaCie external drive. The encryption phase took 24 hours. is this normal? After that, the backup time remaining is stated as 8 hours. How can I speed this up? This is not the first time I backed up. It took this long the first time, and the time after that. My computer is a MacBook Pro using High Sierra.

Thanks, I guess ya got to pay the price.

I think the only way to speed this up would be with external SSDs, on Thunderbolt if you have that.

24 hour to encrypt the data then only about 6 to actually complete the backup
