ATV can't get ant local tv, not asking for a lot just want chaNNEL4 but don't want the cable bill, can anyone figure this out. HELP??!!
Please specify your country/region. E.g., Channel 4 in the UK is a specific network (not particularly local per se), different from similar named networks in other countries. Channel 4 (UK) has an on demand app for tvOS: All 4.
As stated if you are in the US there are options, with live streaming services like Youtube TV. Most network apps will require authentication using a provider, some may have a stand alone subscription (like CBS All Access). This will differ in other locations.
If you just want local TV then you can purchase an HD Home run to connect an antennae and make it available to your network. Then you would install the channels app on Apple TV to view that content.
What country are you in? That would help, in the USA there are numerous low-cost solutions however without knowing where you are it's difficult to suggest anything .
i have smart TV , after buying ATV thought I cam stream TV Local Channels and OWN Channels, I was able to watch OWN last night. And you are right don’t really know all it can do or should do. I have internet but NO CABLE SICK OF THAT BILL. Can you recommend a cheap way to go. I already pay for Netflix and HBO. 68 yrs old fixed income and need cheapest. You need to see if your local Channel 4 has an app and if you are a subscriber then you are set. Simply log into your account and begin watching the channel. If your local Channel 4 does not have an app but is a major network affiliate such as ABC, NBC, CBS etc. search for that app, download it (assuming you have an Apple TV 4 or Apple TV 4K) and again, you need to subscribe.
You may simply have a misunderstanding of what Apple TV is.
