Apple Watch with Tattoos

I know that this has been discussed a lot on here, but it was a few years ago. My Apple Watch will not stay unlocked on my wrist with a tattoo, so per recommendations I turned off wrist detection. Some say it doesn’t work because of the optical sensor but what I don’t understand is that it can still take my heart rate while working out, or when manually opening the heart rate app. Do you think it’s just a software issue that it won’t stay unlocked with wrist detection on?

Wrist detection is used for a couple of reasons . One as a security mesure, so it you take off your Watch it lock so no one else can access it. Also it is a requirement of Apple Pay. So yes if you don’t use Apple Pay you can use it without wrist detection being on.
