Keyboard shortcut to delete clip and remove gap at same time garageband

I do a lot of editing of podcasts. When I split a clip to delete a section, I've always deleted it and then manually dragged the two regions together to eliminate the gap. I'd like a way to do it quickly with a keyboard shortcut that allows me to accomplish the delete and eliminating the gap all at once. I watched a youtube video that recommended using control/delete, but I can't get that to work. In Audacity, when you delete a clip, it automatically eliminated the gap. Surely, there is a way to do this in Garageband?

Thanks
