About a month ago my iMac said "total protection quit unexpectedly" and I kept clicking "reopen" but it kept saying the same thing. After about 30 minutes searching for answers on the web I called Mcafee tech support and they walked me through un-installing total protection. It worked fine for about a month, but today the same thing happened! does anyone know whats going on?

Uninstall it as per the developer's instructions.
No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system.
What you should do is uninstall McAfee and never install it again. Antivirus programs are not needed on Macs, interfere with the built-in security measures, slow performance, report false positives and are known to remove files they shouldn't.
