Apple Watch Series 4 Problems

Apple watch 4: two problems: number one: when I sleep I set my iPhone X to "do not disturb".. When I wake, my watch has changed faces. It does this consistently. Second problem, I use stopwatch on I watch frequently. Somehow it always stops Spontaneously. I have observed this frequently and it makes using the stopwatch unreliable. Apple support ( By phone with screen share) could not reproduce the problem. I've never had this problem using standard wristwatch stopwatches. Suggest Apple put a screen command icon in place so one could stop the watch when the operator wishes to do so.

If you wear your watch while you sleep the screen change problem is almost certainly caused restless sleeping and random touches and swipes on the screen. You could test this easily by manually activating the Water Lock feature to disable the touch screen. (Turn the Digital Crown to unlock and resume normal operation when you wake)

If you find the screen change is not due to stray fingers while you sleep you might have a defective touchscreen which is seeing ghost touches. Your Series 4 is still in warranty, so if you suspect a hardware problem Contact Support (link) and arrange to get it examined by Apple.

Thank you for your thoughtful analytical note. I have also noticed the stopwatch is not reliable if used during the waking hours when I make a conscious effort not to touch the "stop" button. Your information about the touchscreen seeing "ghosts"

as a real revelation (no pun intended). The only Apple store in my state is 160 miles away . It is always a multiple hour wait for attention.

The thought of having it checked is a good one, but I hate to give up to watch to be tested and I hate to stand in long lines.

I will just have to wear my other watch for stopwatch functions. Cordially, CWR

Use the support link I gave you above, Contact Support to arrange an appointment if you need to travel to the store. That should cut your waiting time to minutes rather than hours. The same link will let your request a callback from Apple and they should be able to attempt remote diagnostics over the air. If that indicates a service exchange watch is required I will also ask if you have AppleCare on your watch, because they might be able to arrange an expedited replacement by mail.
