Stopwatch opens on wake

Hello, the stopwatch on my iwatch opens upon wake and not my chosen watch face. I have to press the crown to revert back to the watch face to tell the time. I have already gone into settings on my phone to ‘Wake Screen’ and under ‘On screen wake show last app’ have selected ‘Never unless in session’. I restarted the watch twice and still I keep getting the stopwatch upon wake. This just started happening randomly even though I updated the software a week ago and didn’t have this problem until today.
