payment method declined

my credit card was recently stolen and cancelled. i'm trying to add a new card, yet the card on file with apple says it needs to be verified before I can add a new card due to subscriptions attached. i'm unable to add a new card until this old card is verified. seems to be a error in logic, since I can't verify a cancelled card and can't add a new card until the old card is verified. suggestions?
