Connecting HomePod to Macbook

Today I bought a new HomePod and I was excited to unbox it and listen to my music from my MacBook Pro - from iTunes of course. I was straight away disappointed and shocked in the same time when, trying to connect the HomePod directly to my Macbook, I realised that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. I find this issue a huge flaw in the Apple ecosystem: how can an Apple product be so poor at compatibility with other Apple products? Can Apple address this issue and fix it as soon as possible, please? I had to return the HomePod and asked for a refund until the problem will be fixed, which I hope it's gonna happen sooner than later.

Thank you Apple

While I agree it would be nice if an iOS device wasn't mandatory this is fairly clear:

HomePod - Technical Specifications - Apple

System Requirements

  • iPhone 5s or later, iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation or later), iPad Air or later, iPad mini 2 or later, or iPod touch (6th generation) with iOS 12 or later
  • 802.11 Wi‑Fi Internet access
  • Apple Music subscription for full music functionality
