Open app from Dock using Terminal

I used to run a nice little Terminal script which took care of opening applications from the Dock. When I started an app from there, the new application was opened and all other opened apps went to the background.

This Terminal script is no longer installed. Does someone have its details for me?? I miss it ;-)

Hi,

Thanks for your answer, but this is not what I mean.

I am looking for a specific Terminal script (which I cannot find back, in spite of all my googling ;-). Once it runs, I can launch any application from the dock while pushing all other running applications to the background (like what happens with the keyboard shortcut option-cmd-h).
