iTunes on Windows xp

I have a dinosaur of a desk top pc which is connected to my turntable converter and other music devices. Since Apple has discontinued iTunes on Windows XP, I can't even access my library on my old PC. Is there any way I can reinstall even an early version of iTunes, so I can at least access my library?

Windows, Windows 6

Why can't you access your library?

The fact Apple no longer supports iTunes on Windows XP does not in any way stop an old version from working and accessing the library on that PC.

Did you remove the iTunes version installed on the Windows XP PC? Or what happened?

You can of course download an install a version that works on Windows XP and it should open and access the library. There's a list of links to old versions of iTunes installers at the bottom of this User Tip: Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows - Apple Community

These are the last versions of iTunes that run on XP or Vista:

  • iTunes 12.1.3.6 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2015-09-16) Current for XP SP3 & Vista
  • iTunes 12.1.3.6 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes6464Setup.exe (2015-09-16) Current for Vista

However they cannot connect to the iTunes Store as outlined in About App Store and iTunes Store availability - Apple Support so you cannot use them now, for example, to redownload your purchase history from the iTunes Store.

See the Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components section of the troubleshooting tip. Strip out iTunes and all related software, the reinstall using the download from the link above. Take note of suggestions to disable AV software when installing iTunes and to run the installer as administrator. Read the notes below the main box which deal with most of the common issues.

Thank you for your reply. No I didn't remove iTunes. One day, I clicked on the icon and got a message "Entry Point Not Found". When I try to reinstall at iTunes.Setup.exe, it installs and then I get a message that says either "An earlier version of iTunes is already on this computer" or "iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7" Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks again.
