Native Keyboard skipping letters; help needed

Many times my iPad (Pro) and iphone (XS) do not take my typing letters on the native keyboard. Thoughts, are my fingertips on dry? Why do I have to hit the keys several times? Why? What can be done? Very frustrating! Thank you very much!
