retriving messages from old to new device

how do I get my old messages on to my new phone I desperately need them

iPhone 8, iOS 12

Create a backup of the old device and restore the new phone with that backup. Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
