iMovie Export Failing

I am trying to share an iMovie but I keep getting the message: This item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera.

I have looked everywhere and there are fixes that involve sharing to theatre and then saving a local copy, but in the iMovie update that happened about an hour ago, theatre is no longer supported.

I cannot share to file, email, youtube, or anything. I am so frustrated because I have spent so long editing this video, and I literally had to resort to SCREEN RECORDING it with quicktime to save a file. It is beyond ridiculous and I will be so thankful if there is a solution.

Select one of the clips in the project and do a File/Reveal in Finder. Does the clip show up in the folder that pops up? If so, can you double click on it to play it? Try it with a few more clips. If yes to all of the above, then the files have been successfully imported to your Mac.

Next try doing an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, of the media in your project and Edit/Paste it into a newly created project. See if you can share out from there.

Usually this problem is caused when the camera is disconnected from the computer before the import is completed. You can try reimporting and waiting a longer time for the import to finish before disconnecting.

When I connect the camera it does not give me an option to import those files anymore - it says they are already imported.
