Slow Mac

My Mac is running very slow, online & off line. Opening Finder takes 20-30 seconds. Selecting a file takes up to a minute. I have run Malwarebytes and it states the machine is clean. Any advice is appreciated.

I have tried cleaning it up with CleanmyMac but it doesn't seem to make any difference. On restarting the Mac, it can take 5 minutes to start up and render the 40 or so files on the desktop. Programmes take several minutes to open and often crash before opening. Web pages take a long time to open - several minutes for the simplest of pages that have been loaded before. Likewise, trying to open Word or Excel files from Finder takes several minutes. I have run an Etrecheck report on it which is attached. Thanks for any advice you can give.

2017 imac responding very slow High Sierra In the past 3 weeks my iMac is running very slow. I am running high sierra 10.13.6. I have (2) 4gb memory slots, Intel Core i5, 2.3 GHz , Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536MB and 1TB of HD storage which 699.09 gb remains open. I have plenty of space. I store all my files on a external HD. Can macs have viruses? Is there anything I can use to scan my computer to see why it's running slow??? Please help.

Please post an EtreCheck report of your system and we can look for any obvious issues. Please click the link, watch the slideshow to learn how to use the tool and download and run the free version of the app and then post the complete report it produces as your reply to this message.

When you have run the report and are ready to reply to this message please attach the report. You will see a screen shot below that indicates where to click in your reply message.
