DVD stuck in external disc drive, which is no longer recognizable since upgrading to mojave.

Apologies if this has been covered, but I didn't see this specific issue. So I recently and apprehensively upgraded to Mojave mostly for gaming compatibility, and I didn't realize some of the consequences of doing so would be to make my external disc drive unrecognizable/obsolete.

That's disappointing and frustrating enough on its own, but I left a Netflix DVD inside, planning on finishing later. Now I can't get it out. It spins around, but I guess Mojave refuses to utilize it anymore. Is there a workaround or anything? I'd rather not have to go through the trouble of downgrading, just so I can eject and then upgrade again. Thanks in advance.

Make sure the drive is plugged in directly to the Mac to see if it will recognize it.

I didn't hunt through the Goolag search, so try restarting and hold down the mouse button until it fully boots or the disk gets spit out.

Does the drive have a little pinhole in the front of the drive tray? If so, unbend a paperclip and push the long end into the hole until the drive pops out.

Hey, thanks for responding. I saw that page actually, and tried its solutions. Unfortunately, there is no icon whatsoever since I guess Mojave just doesn't recognize that an external is even plugged in. And the D. Utility/Terminal doesn't work since the disc itself isn't seen. I actually have a friend who's still using High Sierra, so I guess I'll just have to use his MacBook and eject then. Still, it's kind of ridiculous I presumably have to resort to such means.

Hey there, thanks the suggestions. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be working. The SuperDrive is indeed directly plugged in. It makes the little spinning/reading sounds, but it never seems to fully acknowledge the disc. As much as I love Apple, and have been more-ore-less dedicated to them since I was a kid, there are quizzical policies and designs that duly frustrate me. Especially when more often than not, the motivations for making things that way are basically seclusion from other companies, and limiting what one might be able to do. The superdrive not having a pinhole eject button is a prime example. So often, their model is reliant on other aspects working perfectly, and that approach leaves the potential for many vulnerabilities and flaws.

Anyway, I suppose it is in fact possible that the problem lies within the disc itself somehow. I still don't think this is the case however, as it happened immediate.y after upgrading to Mojave, and the drive read the disc until then. It's looking like I may have to just take it in to Geek Squad, or somewhere similar. If my friend's laptop with Sierra doesn't work, I will have to resort to such means.
