Logic Pro X 10.4.5 not opening

Hi everyone. My Macbook Pro 13" updated logic on its own today. Now I can't open Logic. Everytime I click it, it shows it scanning for plugins then crashes (quits unexpectedly). I tried to reinstall Logic 10.4.5, to no avail. I boot from an external SSD. Could that be the problem? Please help.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

*potential idiot update*

The support guys only told me to delete one of the logic preference files in ~/Library/Preferences, so that's all I tried.

Just had a go at deleting all three files that said 'Logic' in them aaaaand that has worked!

Hi guys,

I've also had this problem.... Spent hours with Support but they've 'escalated' it as we didn't make any progress.

Deleting the preference files didn't make a difference in my case, but weirdly I set up another admin user account for my laptop (as part of the tests with support) and it doesn't crash while opening in that profile......

They're going to get back to me after the weekend so for now I've just got to share my files and do the switch.....

Has anyone had any other breakthroughs on this matter?

thanks

Prefs has been explained a dozen times in the last two weeks, and has been used to help clear issues for years.

It's the file Logic creates for it's preference settings. When you adjust preferences In Logic changes are made and saved to a preference file located in the computers User/Library/Preferences folder.

8. Delete user preferences

Before deleting user preferences, note any specific preference settings that you’ve made, and save any custom key commands you've created. Deleting preferences removes any custom preference settings and custom key commands.

To delete the user preferences, do the following:

  1. Quit Logic Pro X.
  2. In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Preferences, then click Go. (Note: exactly as written) ~/Library/Preferences
  4. Remove the "com.apple.logic10.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
  5. If you upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, also remove the "com.apple.logic.pro" file. It is also advisable to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file.
  6. Restart your Mac.

Don't do this if you're not having problems.

Thank you Pancenter

Whilst I appreciate the info, I wouldn't dare do that myself, I already have Terminal popping up every few minutes because of pressing things I didnt understand.

If I deleted an earlier version of Logic, as you say above, would that mean I have lost that earlier version?

Meantime I am not having Logic problems, so I wont do it anyway! if I did have I think its best to take it to the Apple Store or a professional.
