My cell phone's microphone has stopped working. I purchased the phone Dec 2016 but bought a multi device protection pack through AT & T in July 2018 which I presume is Applecare? Please let me know if repair is covered.

AppleCare can only be bought within 60 days of the purchase of the device. Look at the documentation you got when you bought it, or look on AT&T's website for info, or contact them.

That is an insurance plan sold through (but not operated by) AT&T. You can check on AT&T's site to learn about it and how to file a claim.
