My WiFi is slow to connect on my mac. I do not have this problem with my iPad or my iPhone.
Both make the connection quickly. Could this have anything to do with age of my mac which is
late 2007? I am running el capitan.

You might have too many apps running at startup, many of which are incompatible with older hardware. So, to remove login items, Go Here: System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items > Hit the Subtract Button for Each Item
