Disabled iPhone 8 Plus not connecting to macbook

Recently my phone became disabled after entering the passcode wrong too many times with the prompt "iPhone is disabled, connect to iTunes". Problem is, neither my macbook or iTunes is recognising that a phone has been connected. The phone charges no issue, i tried using different cables, other phones connect without issue, checked my macbook airs system report but it doesn't show any connected iPhones either. I am aware that i can do a factory reset using only my phone, but this issue happened while on a trip where I took many very memorable photos and videos that I would really really hate to loose (i didn't have time to back them up yet and wont be able to without connecting to iTunes first). Absolutely any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless your iPhone is set to backup to iCloud automatically (which it sounds like it isn't) or you have it set to use iCloud Photos, the pictures/videos from your recent trip are gone.

You can go to www.icloud.com on your MacBook to see if your photos are in iCloud. I hope they are my friend!

That aside, you have no choice but to do an iPhone "Restore" using iTunes. You have to put the iPhone specifically into recovery mode:

Again, just to be clear, once you see the "disabled" screen from having entered your passcode wrong 10 times there is no choice but to "Restore" it (erasing it completely).
