iTunes still demanding corrupt backup be deleted--but it is deleted already!

"iTUnes could not back up the iPhone "my iPhone" because the backup was corrupt.

Delete the backup for this iPhone in Devices Preferences, then try again."

I deleted the backup from

iTunes > Preferences > Devices

(now shows only backup of my iPad, no iPhone backup at all). I have checked and

MyUserHome > Library > iTunes > Mobile Backups

is empty.

App store offers no update for iTunes 12.9.5.5 or iOS 12.3.1

What else can I do?

iPhone 5s

Answered elsewhere, I had the wrong path.

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

was the right path to the backup.
