Avi files on Mac

How can I get Powerpoint to play AVI files on my mac?

I am an academic, I need to have videos in my lecture powerpoint slides.

If I create the slides on my mac the videos will not play on the PCs universities force me to use. If I create slides on my PC then my mac will not play them. If I try to load avi files into mac powerpoint, it does not display and crashes.

What I need to do. I need to be able to write presentations including videos on my mac using powerpoint then be able to present them on a generic PC at other institutions.

Using other video formats does not work.

I cannot connect my mac at most institutions because of the changes to video output (I cannot afford a converter cable)

I cannot use Keynote because it is mac specific.

Does anyone have a solution?

AVI is a non-native video container that is not supported on the Mac without using third-party video players (e.g. VLC). By default, QuickTime will attempt to convert the AVI container into Apple's .MOV format, and that can be time consuming at best.

What do you mean using other video formats does not work. Can you not embed an mpeg-4 video into Powerpoint on a Mac?

Recommendation is that you standardize your embedded Powerpoint videos on .mp4, which is a video standard supported natively on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.
