I just got a new Samsung TV (QE65Q70RATXXU) with the Apple TV app and thought okay so I won't need my Apple TV box now.
I use my Apple TV box to watch Netflix or stream content from my iMac (not purchased via Apple/iTunes)
But the Apple TV app doesnt appear to have the option to connect to my iMac and stream my library - unless I am missing something, so will still need to connect my Apple TV box.
The tv app will come this fall on macOS, could be only for the new upcoming macOS
I use Sling on the current Apple box(4K) and just got a new Vizio that will supposedly get the new AppleTV app, but I have been told that Sling will not work through the Apple TV app as I have heard that Netflix will not be included either, but they do have a Netflix app, so that's not a major issue for me. Does anyone know why the Sling app won't work from within the new AppleTV app? Is it a partnership agreement thing? Will it be coming?

Providers have to agree to opt into the Apple TV app. You would have to contact Sling to inquire as to future plans.

The Apple TV App on smart TVs does not included functionality like Home Sharing.
The Apple TV box indeed does much more than just run the Apple TV App.
