Portion of the MacBook Pro screen with colourful/B&W horizontal lines

I have been facing this issue with the MacBook Pro Retina display 13 inch:

I had been working on the laptop for about 4-5 hours today and suddenly certain portion of the screen has constantly moving horizontal lines which are multi coloured or B&W. These lines do not create any problem with cursor sensitivity for icons, etc. on the screen but you cannot see the portion of the screen properly.

I tried to restart the laptop many times but these lines don’t seem to go away.

The laptop is in good condition, I hardly use it unless necessary. Gathering information from the internet, I don’t understand how any physical damage could come to it.

Please help!

You can always Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

however I would suspect your best bet is get an evaluation for a hardware issue:

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
