AV Adapter stopped working on iPad Air after iOS 12.3 update

I have been using the Apple AV adapter with my iPad Air 2 for 3 years with no problems. After recent update to 12.3.1 the adapter no longer works with the iPad. When I attach the adapter it does not display the blue mirroring indicator, or, it may display the indicator at first but stops when the hdmi cable is attached. When the power is attached to the adapter, and the blue AV indicator is displayed, it flashes Not Charging over the battery indicator. Then the AV indicator goes away and it shows the battery charging. The iPad charges fine when directly connected to power. I went and bought another Apple AV adapter but I have the same result. Using same adapters, cables, same TV, and power all work fine connected to my iPhone 6 running 11.3 - I don’t want to update the iPhone and have the same problem with it.
