I am trying to get all the music albums off my old MacBook and burn them onto blank CD’s. (These are commercial CD’s I downloaded into iTunes years ago and they didn’t go into the cloud.). Many burns worked, but now it won’t burn any longer.
I have an external DVD/CD drive for my 2017 MacBook Pro, but it’s not compatible with the old MacBook. What do I need to buy to finish the job?

Any external optical drive that supports USB should work. Or take it into an Apple shop and have the optical drive repaired or replaced.
Apple SuperDrives are not compatible with all Mac computers. @Kappy is correct, get a regular PC external optical drive instead.
I tried the external drive that works with my 2017 MacBook Pro and I get a message that is incompatible with the older MacBook.
I just received a 2.0 USB external drive from Amazon, and the same "medium write error" appears when the new drive can't burn the playlist. Is there some MacBook setting I am not seeing?
