How to insert multiple images in cells into Numbers spreadsheet?

This may work for you.

In Table 1, Paste the images one per cell in column C as Quick Views. Format Panel > Cell > Image Fill > Scale to Fit

Columns A and B are text.

Enter an Image Number into the "Choose" table (single cell).

Duplicate Table 1. I renamed the duplicate as "Large Images" and enlarged the row heights. Still Scale to Fit.

Formula in D2 (and Fill Down) =IF($A2=Choose::$A$1,"Show","")

Now apply a Filter

Enter a new Image Number into the Choose table

You can hide Column D (Show?) in the Large Images table

Comnine the multiple pictures into a single image, then paste that image into the cell.

Numbers cells accept images only as Image fill. The image adjusts to fill the height, width or both depending on your choice, and expands when you make the cell larger, but you can place only a single image into any cell.

650 images! I recommend picking another tool for that (probably a database app) especially if this is something a business will need to depend on. Numbers is not designed for storing a large number of images. That will lead to considerable bloat in the "file" size. Not only can Numbers be quite clunky in displaying the images, but it doesn't make it easy to "get them out again" if you need them.

One option is to store your images in a service like Dropbox that allows you to copy a link, and paste those links into Numbers cells. Then when you click a link the related image opens. You can do your calculations in the usual spreadsheet way.

Another option is to use a database program like FileMaker. FileMaker can definitely handle the job and may be worth the price (and the learning curve) if your business will depend on this. There are less expensive database apps like TapForms that might also be a good choice.

It means my fat fingers hit the wrong key, that's all. Interesting word, though. Must look it up and see if it's a real one. :-)

It's easy enough to put a single image into a singl cell and another image into another cell in the same column, and so forth. Just copy the image, select the cell and Paste. To remove the image, select the cell, open the format Inspector, choose cell, and choose No fill. To replace the image, just paste in a new one.

With the image pasted in as image fill, you can make the cell larger and the image will expand to fill the cell, You do need to pay attention to the aspect ratio (width to height) to avoid short and wide or tall and thin images, and you'll have no real control over that if others are the ones viewing the file.

As format, not content, the images themselves are not searchable. If you want to be able to locate one, you'll need a file number, name or description in an adjacent cell to use as a search target.
