I have an Iphone X and i have had it for about a year and some change now! These phones are sworn to be waterproof but yesterday my phone fell in some water and it instantly black out heated up and stopped working? I need to know my next step when contacting apple and no I do not have insurance or apple care!

No iPhone is waterproof, they're water-resistant. The Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty does not cover accidental damage, which means you're looking at an out-of-warranty replacement for $549, as Apple does not repair liquid damaged phones.
