My wired PS3 controller wont connect to my MacBook air

When trying to connect my ps3 controller to my Mac, I go into bluetooth as instructed, and look for the controller to pop up. But it doesn't. I have looked up articles to try and find out a solution, but have discovered none. I have also tried to see if the controller is actually compatible with my MacBook Air, but the pages either say that it should or doesn't specify. So I am very confused as to what is happening.

This is my second controller, as I have tried out a second one just incase it was faulty, but that isn't the case.

My controller is the "PS3 controller wired ap 203861" the 2018 version and it is the @play one.
