pages: group does not work?

Hi - I have a document with namecard info (2 x 8) and needed to make some updates. After having the unit block ready, duplicating and aligning the two blocks I wanted to group them for easy replicating. However, when I select the two text blocks and try to group them, the group option remains inactive/grey. I am working on macOS Mojave with Pages 8.1.

Would anyone have a suggestion?
