Sort Order of Files in Open and Save Dialogs - Make Sort By Name Default

I have Finder Prefs set to sort Finder window contents by name. When I am in an application and use the Open, Save, Place, etc. dialogs, contents are shown in no particular order. How can I get it back to sort by Name?

Could be wonky Finder prefs.

From your Finder "Go" menu > "Go to folder" then copy & paste this file path:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go.

Delete the plist file.

Then, restart, or log out and in again.

(You may have to reset some Finder preferences the way you like them)

Have you tried renaming the file to make sure there's no hidden character included in the file name that might cause it to sort incorrectly?

While in column view go to the View ➙ Show View Options menu and set the Sort by and Group buy as shown below:

Also boot into Safe Mode and check the sorting there. Reboot normally and check again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.
