Sluggish Finder and Fix...

Hi all,

High Sierra - Sluggish finder. My finder was acting quite sluggish at times. A good example is it if you attempted to open a file from an app window - when you selected the file to open - it would be a pause of up to five seconds before the file would appear in the app.

Finally I tracked down the sluggishness in the finder. As it turns out it was the desktop app for SYNC APP - https://www.sync.com

The Sync app was only set to monitor 1 relatively small folder - not my whole user folder so there should be no way this would be a problem.

When I quit the Sync app - all the sluggishness vanished.

Going forward, I guess I can just run sync manually once in a while.

I will be contacting the company to see if they have any solutions for this issue.

Q: I am curious if anyone else has had this problem and if there's any possible solutions?

If the files of the folder do not add more than the storage space on your iCloud account, you can add that folder to your documents sync for iCloud. That way, you can occasionally check in on that folder over iCloud to see if it has changed.

You should use only one program that moves around files at any one time. Otherwise the machine will slow down to ensure files are copied that are not open, and attempt to multitask each one. If both access the same files at the same time, that will hang the machine.
