Is my Macbook Pro fan working right?

My Macbook Pro occasionally has its fan get overclocked even when it is not hot at all, and none of the applications that I have open are taking up much energy. It even does it when it's sleeping or in standby mode every once in a while. The only way I can figure out how to make it stop is to turn off or restart my computer.

Is this something to worry about?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.13

You can try running the Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostic depending on the exact model of your laptop.

Try an SMC reset and PRAM reset (hold the PRAM reset for a full minute so it activates several times).

If the fan(s) are running at high speed, then something is most likely running on your laptop to cause this condition. You can post an EtreCheck report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

Does the same thing happen when you boot into Safe Mode? FYI, the screen may flash or flicker due to the basic video driver used in Safe Mode.
