2015 MacBook Pro extremely slow (even in recovery mode)

Hello,

as stated above, my MacBook Pro from 2015 is extremely slow and laggy. Even in recovery mode.

I've already reset the NVRAM and SMC.

From research i've found out, that in the past, the hard drive cable was the problem.

As the 2015 MB has no cable like this, is there any other thing that could be broken?

Thank you in advance

Hello adrianknorr,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your MacBook Pro.

Since the issue is also occurring in macOS Recovery, I recommend running diagnostics on your computer.

This article has info and the steps: How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac - Apple Support

If you receive any reference codes, you can check them here: Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes - Apple Support

Or have the device checked at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.

Please make a backup before taking the computer in to your appointment: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

Also, you will need to have your Apple ID and password handy when visiting a service provider. Check this help article under the bottom section titled "Get ready for service" for other items to ensure you are prepared: Mac Service and Repair - Apple Support

Thank you so much!!

To be honest, i've never heard of the Apple Diagnostics.

It said there are issues with:

  • power management system (PPN001)
  • system management controller (PFM006)
  • the camera (NDC001)

A guy in another forum had the exact same issue with the same error codes. He had to clean some spillage from the motherboard to get it working again. As there was no flith on the motherboard, i just unplugged the camera and it worked again! Apple said i have to replace the motherboard which costs 700 Euros. That's a economic total loss.

Now it's working perfectly fine! Thank you so much for naming the diagnostic tool!
