iMovie 10.1.12 "This item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera."

iMovie 10.1.12 will not let me share an edited movie because "This item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera." Some clips have a camera icon in the lower right corner, even though they were already imported from an SD card.

Even when I try to import clips from the same SD card, iMovie shows them all as already having been imported and won't re-import them.

Help!

It could be that you disconnected your camera or SD card before the import was completed. That can give you the "still referencing" message.

Try importing the clips to your desktop using the Image Capture app in your Mac applications folder. Then drag them from your desktop into iMovie. Or, you can import the clips into the Photos app and access them from within iMovie via the Photos item that is displayed in the side bar of an iMovie project.
